The Issues That Matter

Despite claiming to fight for affordability, Perruzza's voting record tells a different story. In December 2022, he voted against the Multi-Tenant Housing Framework, which was designed to bring rooming houses out of the shadows and enforce basic fire, health, and safety standards for renters.

Furthermore, as our city faces a severe housing shortage, he has actively voted to block the expansion of multiplexes and gentle density that young families desperately need.

Our youth need mentorship, jobs, and safe recreational spaces. Yet, under Perruzza's watch, we lost the proposed Ghanaian Canadian Association of Ontario (GCAO) community hub. The association submitted their business plan directly to Perruzza's office, but when the city abruptly reassigned the building, he claimed he was completely "unaware" of the city's plans.

We also lost the promised Metrolinx community hub on the Jane-Finch transit lands, with Perruzza failing to secure any binding agreements before the province reversed its decision.

Taxpayer dollars are consistently wasted through sheer administrative neglect. The city spent $860,000 on a property for the Red Oak Parkette, but Perruzza's office and city staff failed to realize residential tenants were living inside, stalling the park for years while he claimed to be "appalled" by the delays.

Meanwhile, at Rowntree Mills Park, gates were padlocked for years, locking out seniors and working families. When confronted, Perruzza claimed the issue was only "just brought to my attention," despite years of local activism.

Residents can't get answers, and his default excuse is that he "didn't know." This administrative failure is compounded by ethical breaches. In July 2024, the Integrity Commissioner found that Perruzza violated the Code of Conduct by distributing flyers during an election ban period and utilizing an unauthorized dataset containing approximately 10,000 constituent names for his campaign.

Perruzza's political career is marked by deep community divisions. In 2006, his election campaign environment became so fraught with harassment allegations that the city was forced to spend an unprecedented $23,200 on off-duty police officers just to guard the ballot boxes.

Today, he continues to play both sides — using activist rhetoric about the realities of policing while voting against motions that would have reallocated body-camera funding directly into grassroots social development programs.
